Camp along the shores of Wide Hollow Reservoir, or rent a canoe, kayak or paddleboard on its clear waters. Hike along park nature trails through a petrified forest, but remember to take only photographs. Some say the petrified wood is haunted and removing a piece brings the taker nothing but bad luck.
Located 1.5 miles west of Escalante off Highway 12.
Wide Hollow Campground: $25
This was a great campsite. We were in the group site for 3 nights. It was clean, well maintained, and quiet. The scenery was picturesque, and the trail of sleeping rainbows hike is a must!
We just spent four nights at the Wide Hollow Reservoir Campground and it was fantastic - except for one pesky, thieving squirrel. ;)
We chose Wide Hollow Campground because of it proximity to all of the fantastic sites for hiking and site seeing throughout the Escalante area.
The campsites include a tent pad and a cement slab with picnic table, fire ring, and grill. Some come with a very nice shade structure over the picnic table area.
We also really liked the full bathrooms and showers. There are nice asphalt trails and parking spots between camp sites.
Mosquitos and gnats were annoying, so BRING BUG SPRAY, CANDLES, AND ALL OTHER MANNER OF BUG PROTECTION.
The Escalante Petrified Forest State Park hike next door to the campground is not to be missed.
We loved our stay at this campground!
Brand new campground area! Spotless bathrooms! Lots of space.
We were the first ones to use that tent site.
All picnic table with shed.
Heated bathrooms and showers. Nice quiet spot with great scenery. The petrified forest is also a nice hike. It's not very strenuous for the average person. The staff is very friendly.
