About Campground

Permits for White Pine may be obtained at the Platte River Campground Ranger Station during the summer or from the Philip A. Hart Visitor Center the rest of the year. This camp has 6 sites and is located about 2 miles from the Trail's End Road trailhead on the Platte Plains hiking trail south of Empire just off of M-22. The camp is located about 1/2 mile from the Lake Michigan shore where you can obtain fresh water. There is no well water at White Pine, so if you use water from Lake Michigan, it must be treated before drinking it.

Directions

The GPS is not correctly marked. We set up camp directly at the GPS Pin where seemingly two camp sites were located. (Previous campsites, burn pits, & tire tracks).

The next day, a Park Ranger later ticketed our group nearly $500 for camping at the Google marked campsite.

He explained to us that the Park has not updated the GPS pin.

It's seemingly a honeypot for Rangers ticketing campers.

Otherwise the location is great. The trail allows easy access to the beach. We ran into several people trying to camp at the same site that same day.

The campground is nice and well maintained. We enjoyed the short hike there and our one night stay. We came here late on 4th of July weekend but there were still campsites available.

@jill, here's a picture of that f150 that got stuck.... It was mine. AAA won't touch the area, and that little jeep will put your big vehicles to shame.

Don't try driving through here, might be worth the hike.

Ok, so if you take Peterson Rd, down towards the Peterson Recreational Beach Area you have a well maintained dirt road. The campsite is really nice and tucked away with a really easy hike. The hike is about 1.5 miles to the campsite and then you are about .5 mile from the your own private beach off of Lake Michigan. Would and will recommend to my friends.

Beautiful campsites with an amazing beach close by. We enjoyed it very much. Just a note... if you're going to camp here, please be respectful of your fellow campers and don't stay up talking loudly until 2:30am with your blazing supernova light on. People come here to escape into nature's serenity. Have your camping party somewhere else.
