Free to visit, $10 donation to camp per night. This place is one of my favorites. Beautiful and peaceful.
Beautiful lake with some primitive trails along the banks. Saw several kayaks out and fishermen at various locations around the lake. Ran into two snakes that quickly plugged into the water and swam quickly away. Both were 2-3 feet in length.
Traveled here since the mid 80s with my family as a hunting trip. However when I go now the Public access and Public campgrounds we have used in past have all been closed down.(update 2023): Some of the areas have been opened back up in a limited number for hunter acess: Mainly around the lake . Sad to see our Public lands being shut down to the Public.
This is an outdoor enthusiast's dream but it's also family friendly... Love this location! 20 minutes drive and half an hour hike and you can feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. So peaceful and quiet. Come and explore for a day or spend the week and you'll still not have seen all that's offered here. Hunting, Camping ($10 donation), Fishing, Hiking, Trail Running, Mountain Biking and Kayaking are some of the activities that we enjoy at Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area. Come find your Adventure!
Oh my gosh, this place is incredible and completely untouched (except for a gravel road and a small pier). I was blown away by the many splendors of this beautiful place with so many options of fishing, hiking, camping, horseback riding, swimming, boating, and so much more!!! You can take in the many elevations, plus being nestled in between two mountains. I highly recommend you come prepared (no around for miles, including zero restrooms), but this is an absolute must to see!!!
