Take Highway 2 east past Waterville, Washington, for 8 miles, and turn right onto "H" Road. Follow this gravel road for 7 miles, down into the Douglas Creek canyon.
So pretty, good little short hike to get too and back..well worth it!
Great place to see several layers of lava/rock deposited over the eons as well as flora and fauna. Lots of birds. Quiet and beautiful on a Saturday in April.
Beautiful examples of channel scablands of Easter Washington. Being a budding geologist there is so much to see! Many spots for dispersed camping and hiking opportunities as well as fishing in some of the waterfall pools. We enjoy hiking and riding so was the best of both worlds.
Went to Douglas Creek on October 2023 and camped for 8 days. For someone from W.Washington it was absolutely awesome. I hiked 3 days and mountain biked 3 days (with a very old and basic MTB no problem). If you keep heading up and up, you can get that 'roof of the world' feeling that can't be beat. The Creek itself is real nice but the uplands and plateaus were the star for me. It was cold at night and I only persuaded myself to check out the stars one time. Each one was incredibly bright like I'd never seen before, I think because you are camping in a canyon. The only downsides: 1- Mileage to get there (I'd originally planned to do Quincy Lakes but they were closed for the season) 2- A bit rough on suspension 3- If its been raining you will be checking the Creek crossings in case they rise up. (I was paranoid about that) 4- Being October I had my pick of campsites and found the very best one. There are about 20-30? possible but mostly they are not so great. Overall it was an experience I'll remember for ever, because shortly afterward I moved out of WA to another part of the world completely...
