Owner needs substance use counselling! Seriously.
The good first- right on the river, lots of grass, some shade, fire pits, picnic tables you can move around to set your area as you like. Horseshoe pits, volleyball net set up.Potable water, pay showers that can wash you from the nipples down (and I'm not tall)
The bad- that would be the drunk owner who can't remember who he talks to, what he says, or your cell phone number you have emailed him and your family back home has given him each of the 4 times he calls in the past 1hr too drunk to follow the conversation (my 15yr daughter finally stopped answering the phone due to his ranting)
The Ugly- having the owner Randy - come into your campsite in the morning still drunk and ranting that you got in to late....even with having reservations.Telling you how state campgrounds don't let you in after dark and how you should know how much traffic would be slowing your arrival to his campground and should have planned accordingly even if it meant taking kids out of school early!
He likes to rant about how full he could be and doesn't need your business...yet we noticed he was maybe 60% full on Memorial day weekend. We watch him chase off other's who came to camp without a "reservation" yet he had lots of spaces. He like to rant about what the hours are at other parks and that's the model he follows yet he verbally chastised a family who came "To early" (7am) to see if they could camp!! It was astounding to say the least. This guy has no idea how to run a business, I'm guessing most of his guest that repeat are either similarly inebriated, related, or don't know their are other options.
We heard he was a "good guy" we think we saw a glimpse of that when he was sober....that was not often enough. Randy can rest better knowing we won't be back while he owns or runs the place. I guess it was his family property so doubt any change will occur.
Not a bad place. Maybe not as good as some expect, but I did not experience anything like what people have described, sure, the camp host starts tipping the elbow pretty early in the day, and he is concerned about conserving water and electricity. But he has always been nice to me and those I have stayed here with.
Maybe it's just because someone in our party bought him a six pack... It doesn't help with his drinking problem, but it sure did make him pleasant to deal with.
Other than the camp host, it's a great place to camp near chelan or Winthrop with your family. It has a nice little beach, a volleyball net, and horseshoe pits if I remember correctly.
Made reservations to stay here for Memorial weekend. Arranged plans with a dozen friends, had everything setup. The night before my reservation, at 11:30pm, this Randy guy calls me up acting crazy, and said he was cancelling my reservation. I still have no idea why he cancelled our reservation, although he kept complaining that he knew what type of people we are and that we would be partying and stuff. My group is a bunch of middle-aged professionals looking for a quiet time, so that was completely bizarre. So, thanks Randy, for being a complete jerk and ruining Memorial weekend for a dozen people by waiting until literally the very last second to cancel our plans. This person is completely untrustworthy, is not good to his word, and is crazy. He actually insulted me on the phone, and was yelling at me. At 11:30pm. The night before my reservations. What a truly awful experience and a terrible person.
Loved our stay. John is super accommodating. Perfect get away on the river.
Lightening Pine RV park is under new management and don’t let the rustic signs discourage you from visiting this small park on the Methow River. I stayed here the first year John took over the ownership of the park and he has been working to make this a special spot on the river.
There are 10 RV sites with full hook ups, tent space and private river access for fishing and swimming. The park is quiet and is located between Pateros and Twisp.
The shower house/bathroom is rustic and the owner is working on improvements.
Dogs allowed on a leash, kid friendly, lots of lush yard for playing.
Good Verizon cell signal, no park Wi-Fi, close to grocery stores in Brewster, Pateros, and Twisp.
The owner lives on site and is committed to making your stay the best he can provide.
