About Campground

Waitsboro Campground is located on beautiful Lake Cumberland in southern Kentucky. Natural Features: The campground overlooks the main body of the lake, offering sweeping scenic views. Dense stands of mature hardwoods forest the site, offering scenic views, pleasant shade and wildlife habitat. Because of the temperate climate and relatively long recreation season, the lake provides varied outdoor recreational opportunities for millions of visitors each year. Recreation: Lake Cumberland is the largest man-made lake east of the Mississippi River. Its large surface acreage and over 1,200 miles of shoreline provide a myriad of recreational activities. The lake has an abundance of largemouth, smallmouth, white and Kentucky bass, bluegill, crappie, rockfish and walleye, making it a favorite among anglers. The Black Walnut Nature Trail, located near the lake office, is a self-guided educational trail. Facilities: The campground offers 17 RV sites, all with electric hookups, and five tent-only sites. Eight of Waitsboro's sites are on the waterfront, making them prime locations for weekend recreation. Amenities include flush toilets, showers, drinking water, laundry facilities and a dump station. A day-use area with a group picnic shelter and a parking area is also available. Nearby Attractions: General Burnside Island State Park is nearby. It was named after Civil War General Ambrose Burnside, who led patrols along the Cumberland River, circling this 400-acre island to keep watch for Confederate soldiers. Visitors come today to enjoy boating, fishing, golfing and picnicking on Kentuckys only island state park. Burnside Marina is 10 minutes away, with boat rentals, a restaurant and general store. Activities: Boating, Fishing

Views were amazing, volunteers were pleasant and easy to talk to. Campground is quiet after 10pm. Mostly families while we stayed.

They need to make sure campsites are clear of dog feces between campers. Our site smelled like a kennel. There is no actual beach but at the end of the camping loop there is a staircase that leads to a rocky, glass filled area that you can get to the lake. Be careful, something (unknown) bit the back of my leg in the water.

Camp hosts can share directions to a better swimming area.

We would be very likely to return.

The best views at a campground I have ever seen! We stayed at a lake front site and while there is no lake access for swimming anywhere in the campground, its well worth it to wake up to that view! Boat ramp is right up the road from the campsites. Very friendly host! Only thing is the sites are on sort of a cliff so you have to keep an eye on the kiddos/pups. Make sure you have longer water hoses because the water hookup is in an awkward spot, at least on Site 8. Not a ton of grass for the dogs to potty and bath houses are up a big hill. If you're going during fall, check out Haney's Apple Farm and the Greenhouse Mum and pumpkin patch just up the road.

Absolutely gorgeous view of the Cumberland river. Quiet, shady campground perfect for Vans and campers! Will go again! Will be my go-to camping spot in the Somerset area. Pristine bathrooms!

We were in a 38' motorhome. Campground is along the lake below a cliff. Very tight maneuvering. Dump station is very difficult to get to. Hard to level larger rig. One road in/out with tight turn around at end. That said it is a beautiful, quiet , peaceful campground. Just not designed for larger rigs.
