From I-15 take exit 260 into Springville. Continue going east through intersection of Main Street and Highway 400 South. There is an awkward 4-way stop at the end of 400 south. Turn right at the stop sign onto Canyon Road. Keep heading east up Canyon Road for about 6 miles, you will pass the Hobble Creek Golf Course. After passing the Hobble Creek Golf Course the road will fork, stay to the right. Balsam Campground is approximately 6 miles from the golf course past the junction of Forest Service Roads 132 and 058.
Balsam Campground is a beautiful place. We have camped there twice over two years.
I am stuck in a wheelchair, so my wife and I are always on the lookout for accessible camping. Several sites at Balsam are identified as accessible, but they have their challenges. As it so happens, Site 7 is not labeled accessible, yet I found it to be the most accessible option at the campground. Your mileage may vary.
Our campground host, Rebecca, was very helpful, friendly, and informative. She helped my wife get our canopy set up and kept us posted on weather updates. We will likely return next year, my health permitting.
This campground is dog and kid friendly. It is the highest campground up Hobble Creek, so there is not as much traffic and people. Good shade and trees for hammocking and a stream running by. Vault toilets were not unpleasant. Haul own water in and haul out own trash. Picnic table and cement pad with fire ring. Nice clear spots for tents. Free range cattle roam outside fenced campground.
Beautiful and nice to get away from the city. Bathrooms were maintained fairly well but they didn't have any running water.
I really wish I had taken more pictures. This was a really nice campground. It's split into 3 different sections wish essentially loops into one entire area. We got lost finding our camp site because it was actually a different entrance than where Google took us (which was the main entrance). The site where the camp host would normally stay wasn't there, so we couldn't find help in locating the number we had reserved. After about 15 minites though we finally found it. They have outhouses, which is nice when you have children. Unfortunately, it was very rank, and the smell often lingered into our campsite. We stayed the weekend, there was a marathon, and one morning, the runners overtook the toilets and left it not only a mess but unable to use for the 2 hours they prepared. That wasn't the camp's fault, though. Another downside is that the different sites are pretty close together, but our neighbors were respectful and friendly. It's worth the travel and stay, though. A nice river is nearby where you can play. There is a trail to hike on the far end. And it was the perfect getaway.
Beautiful area, clean compost toilets (no soap, water, or hand sanitizer though). Paved to be more handicap friendly, however, slopes are very steep. Friendly and helpful staff. Pack it in, pack it out. There are NO TRASH SERVICES ON SITE. Please, clean up after yourself.
