About Campground

Our RV spaces provide full hook ups in a serene location and within walking distance of the store.

First established in 1881 as a stagecoach stop between Winnemucca, NV and Burns, OR, The Fields Station has become world famous for hamburgers, milk shakes, lodging and friendly service for 21st Century travelers. Originally a two-story stone building, The Station lost its upper level due to fire, circa 1955. The lower level was subsequently remodeled into a store, fueling station and café.

Still in operation today, The Fields Station is proudly owned by Jacob and Jaide Downs. People from all over make Fields a destination for world class hunting, bird watching, camping, hot springs, land sailing, hiking, cycling and solitude in the shadow of the picturesque Steens and Pueblo Mountain ranges. Services have expanded over the years as The Fields Station now proudly offers gas, diesel, premium fuel, propane, a café, groceries, tap beer, liquors, motel rooms and RV hook ups.

Motel is super dated, but clean. In a weird way it ads to my nostalgia since I'm getting older. Restaurant has a fairly basic menu with good food (not great, but good). Now you've heard about the milkshakes...well.... they're not that good, because they're awesome. They are reminiscent of the shakes I used to get in the 70's and 80's at a local restaurant where I grew up. As a package the place has a ton of character and I recommend the trip. Short trip to some awesome adventures such as the Alvord, Steens, hot springs and other cool spots.

Spent a night here in the middle of December and it was an absolute experience. The place (Steens and Alvord) was remote, beautiful, forbidding and a bit scary for this city person. The cabin was the perfect warm huddle to experience it from. The milkshakes are undoubtedly great, but I think the flavor lies bigly in where one finds them. I will be back here in winter again, if not anything it makes you contemplate life for a bit in a world filled with rush.

We didn't stay in the little hotel, but we did get some gas and one of their famous milkshakes from the attached store. The folks there couldn't have been nicer and let us park a car for a few nights. Last place to get gas before heading north. Really appreciate the kindness, and the milkshakes :)

Had bacon cheeseburgers and their infamous milkshakes. Wow! Hamburgers were huge (maybe 1/2 pound patties). The milkshakes are the best I’ve ever had, and they have a variety of flavors. Very nice lady that helped us, and talked about farming life out there in the middle of nowhere. Their kids travel two hours to Crane for school, and board there during the week, coming home only for the weekends. This is a very remote location, but the food and especially the milkshakes were worth it!!!!!
