This is a very popular horse trail and provides excellent backcountry hunting.

Write it down on your travel list! Is awesome! Although it is difficult to get to the beginning of the trail, BE CAREFUL, you need a 4x4 car, with good tires and that is tall! We have a Tacoma, so we were able to get there, the entire road is sandy and narrow, there is only room for one car, so go carefully and slowly in case someone is coming from in front of you. The trail itself is short, sandy and with smooth stones, take your best shoes, and plenty of water because it is very hot. It's a combination of desert and forest! We saw many lizards and a large snake (be careful with children)

Still, it is very worth doing! Its views are impressive and at the end, the WOW pictographs!

Very nice place to visit. About 5 miles off the paved road. You'd need something that can traverse sand.

Very steep descent and subsequent ascent to see Indian Pictographs. Getting to the trailhead requires a high clearance 4wd vehicle with wide tires to accommodate the deep sand. This is a good place to get some time to yourself as we so only one other person. Be prepared to back up for quite a distance if you meet oncoming traffic. The views at the trailhead are fantastic. The hike requires some rock scrabbling and there is some exposure if you are agoraphobic. But, if you are healthy, in good shape, and have a good 4WD vehicle, it is a worthwhile trip.

This beautifully fabricated hand railing was installed Nov, 2021. The material was air lifted in. Drilling holes, welding and grinding done on site. Not to forget the engineering and calculation! Thank you Dan and BLM for your labor! This railing is art work itself, and a very nice compliment to the Pictographs!!!
