You will need a car with decent clearance to get there. I did it in a sturdy SUV and still bottomed out (on dirt, thankfully) twice.
Great easily accessible canyon, make sure you have high clearance vehicle as it is Off road driving. The water was High this season, so wet suits required.
From this trailhead, it is an easy and pleasant walk westward for 1.7 miles. This will let you pass through the east rim of the San Rafael Swell and will get you access to the bottom of Eardley Canyon proper. The main part of Eardley Canyon is usually attempted from the top trailhead, some 9.5 miles to the northwest. The canyon is long and dangerous requiring significant experience with climbing ropes and canyonneering skills. The local Search and Rescue teams have to pull people and bodies out of this canyon on a regular, almost yearly basis.
EXPERT ONLY! This canyon is long, hard, hot, and dangerous! Do not attempt unless you're with experienced canyoneers. Too many people learn this the hard way every year it seems from the search & rescue reports...
This is also known as Straight Wash Trailhead and the "Amazing Pool" trailhead. Excellent canyon hike leading behind the reef. The Amazing pool is maybe 200 yards up Eardley Canyon. This is as far as you can hike without canyoning gear. The views behind the reef are impressive. You can also hike up onto the reef from here as well as both North and South to explore more remote canyons and slickrock.
