Trails were pretty muddy... impassibly so in places but we still enjoyed our trip. We love this place, it's truly magical. Camped at the State Forest primitive campground, it was very quiet and dark at night just the sounds of insects and owls making music. I didn't want to go home. We spent a couple rainy evenings at the ccc shelter with a cozy fire and i couldn't help thinking that there was nowhere else id rather be.
That was great. Different trails with loops. Great walk with dog! CLEAN AND QUEIT. (+1 star)
We go to Salamonie quite often. The hiking trails are beautiful and there are so many places to see and things to do. There are bathrooms in the parking areas, a gorgeous picnic area, and a couple playgrounds. If you haven't been I recommend 3 falls trail for your first trail but there are also so many others to check out in the area. The Campground at the state forest is gorgeous as well.
Went and used a paddle boat around the little pond. Didn't see much wildlife. But there was ppl fishing and swimming at the end of the boat ramp.. it was very relaxing.. their was lots of Lilly pads. And looked like mini pine trees under the water.
Great place for the outdoors. You can hunt or fish, camp, water sports. You can even ride horses even though they tear up the trails, cause mud pits, then decide their horses are too special to get muddy so they go off trail and tear up forest. They also liter a lot. But aside from the pox in the woods that is people riding horses being destructive and annoyingly loud, the place is great. Bring your family sometime to camp or just hike. Make sure you wear boots though and watch where you are stepping... cause horses...
