From Antonito, CO, take US 285 south 0.3 miles to Hwy 17. Continue straight on Hwy 17 and go 13.2 miles to campground sign. Turn left at sign and go 0.3 miles to campground on right.
Beautiful and private, but as soon as I stepped out of the car, I was swarmed by mosquitos. I couldn't keep them off of me and when I say mosquitos, I mean biblical proportions. We were disappointed there was no campground host, just a pile of firewood still wrapped in plastic. The dumpsters were overflowing with trash that clearly had not been collected in weeks. Trash was all over the campground. Finally, this is not the safest place I've ever been. With no host and being out of cell service, it was very uncomfortable. In the plus side, only two other campsites were taken, so it is very quiet.
Beautiful camping area! We were in the lower loop, and had a nice private spot. There were a lot of mosquitos but it was well worth being next to the river that our kids really enjoyed playing in.
Great campsite with a varied layout for campsites, a few sites are pretty close together so be mindful on busy weekends/holidays. Great river sounds at all the lower sites. Host is super nice and knowledgeable on the area, would recommend it for it's proximity to so much southern Colorado has to offer.
We were in the lower loop, fair amount of mosquitoes but amazing views by the river
