Pinckney Recreation Area is a paradise for backpackers, mountain bikers, anglers and other recreation enthusiasts. Pinckney is known for its extensive trail system and chain of excellent fishing lakes. Over forty miles of multi-use trail with remote campsites afford a backcountry experience. Pinckney is also a short drive from the Gerald E. Eddy Discovery Center in Waterloo Recreation Area.
I absolutely love this place. I've been here multiple times and they are consistent. Campsites are clean, the park is kept up, and I got lucky and picked the best spot ever. Thanks for a great time and a good job from everyone that allows a great time to happen
This is an excellent rustic campground. Quiet and not over crowded. Peaceful place to paddle although crooked lake itself is not very big. The launch is nice and not overgrown. Staff at the park hq are helpful and kind and the hq is open even on a Sunday which is nice. They sell firewood for a good price.
Mostly tents because it's not really set up for rigs and there's no electric. Vault toilets only. The hand pump wasn't working but I could get water at silver lake. Kind of a bummer but not a big deal. I stopped in to tell them about it and I'm sure they'll set it right soon.
It's nice to find a spot for a Saturday night. And I like how small this place is (25 sites ) Excellent basecamp for hiking and paddling. Both times I've stayed here the experience was quiet and pleasant with plenty to do in the pinkney rec area.
Really nice and pretty campground :) Very close to lots of pretty places to visit and hike and kayak and swim and only an hour from Detroit! The vault toilets were clean. We stayed in site c11 and it was a very large secluded site, which was nice. There were some very loud people throughout the day but after 10pm it was very quiet. We were woken up around 6am by sandhill cranes calling which was really cool. The people who stayed in the site before us left a bunch of garbage around the site including a giant pile of dog food on the ground????? Which was really irritating. Don't be that person!!! Leave no trace!!!!! But overall this was a very nice place and I will definitely be back!
Gorgeous scenery, especially with fall colors in full show. Not hard to get a campsite at even the day of (during the week I mean. I'm not sure about the weekend). Clean place with considerate neighbors and no outside noise from highways or planes or anything. Did not encounter any horrendous bugs or wildlife while there.
It was super quiet, and even though the lack of showers hurt me emotionally I was prepared for that. The dock is super nice for fishing, the boat launch is maintained really well. There are loads of other lakes and recreational areas locally if a quiet weekend of camping isn't for you. The vault toilets were very well taken care of and I think they got cleaned more than the bathrooms at some other camp grounds. We stayed in site 11 and it's huge big enough for 2 fairly large tents, an easy up, and all of the family chairs, with enough room to play corn hole still. The lake is a good little kayaking spot, but there isn't a beach for swimming, but a quick drive gets you to the silver lake area that has a huge beach and rec area.
