The Two Pan Campground is a small horse camp located below the Two Pan Trailhead at the end of the Lostine Canyon Road. The campground offers 4 stock sites with limited parking areas for visitors wanting to spend time near the Eagle Cap Wilderness. It is situated in a cool location, shaded by spruce and fir trees.
From Enterprise, Oregon travel northwest on State Highway 82 to Lostine; In Lostine go 7 miles south on the Lostine River Road to Forest boundary; Lostine River Road turns into Forest Road 8210; Travel on Forest Road 8210 up the Lostine Canyon for 11 more miles to campground on left side before Two Pan Trailhead. The forest roads are gravel surface.
I planned my best friends bachelor party up here to backpack to mirror lake. We had a lot of fun and it was very pretty!
This is a great backpacking location. Go up to the swamp lake area and loop around to the Bowman trailhead if you're feeling ambitious. Don't let all the cars at the trailhead fool you. We saw very few people further than 2 miles from the trailhead and had our choice of any number of empty camp spots. In mid August, we only had a problem with mosquitos down by the Minam River. Everything else was basically bug free. Highly recommend.
Pretty much go here every year now. We ended up going a little earlier this year (June 26th) The trail was good for the first 3/4 of the way then we stumbled into loads of snow and lost the trail every now & then. Not many spots to camp due to the snow but the entrance of the lake was somewhat clear. Me and my buddies didn't know at the time but when we got back we heard it was 115 degrees all over the state, which would explain why our necks were scorched and half the snow melted in 3 days. Overall experience was 10/10
Been at this trailhead three times. First two times were with horseback guides from Del Sol Wilderness Guides for weeklong excursions into the lakes basin area with friends and family (2013 & 2018). Last year ('21) I went up to hang out for the day, fishing the stream and relaxing. It has become way more popular every year, and I plan on making more trips once my son is old enough. Its one of the most gorgeous areas I've even been.
Second time hiking up to the lakes. We hike up and almost out of the meadow. We then find a spot to camp. If you go to the lakes fires are not allowed so we choose to stay in the meadow. Our favorite lake is Douglas from two pan trail head you can head up the mountain camp. Then hike swim and fish almost all the lakes on a loop trail.
