This is a great backpacking location. Go up to the swamp lake area and loop around to the Bowman trailhead if you're feeling ambitious. Don't let all the cars at the trailhead fool you. We saw very few people further than 2 miles from the trailhead and had our choice of any number of empty camp spots. In mid August, we only had a problem with mosquitos down by the Minam River. Everything else was basically bug free. Highly recommend.
