I chose this place because of their focus on holistic healing, the importance of being outdoors, integration in the community without substances, living in a home and not a hospital setting and authorization to use my phone almost daily. While all those things were true, by the end of my time there the structure was changing. Groups sizes got significantly bigger, as they cut out one of the groups. On top of that, they discontinued hiring contractors which cut out some of the holistic healing (acupuncture, breathwork, yoga). I’m just grateful these changes weren’t made until my last week, otherwise my star review would be lower.
Another issue I had is that it seemed as if the “trouble makers” or, in my eyes, attention seekers, were getting special treatment, leaving those of us who were actually there for treatment for our addictions on the back burner. Some people just aren’t ready for treatment! And if they’re on a “behavioral contract”, kick them out if they are taking away from others recovery.
My therapist in particular, while she was great in assisting with some issues I was having at home, the “individual therapy” we did, was not therapy in the slightest. She spent more time on her computer and phone or talking about herself than she did listening to me. I never knew my treatment plan, and she didn’t meet with me prior to discharge. Thank God I was additionally assigned to the therapy intern, Katie, for individual therapy. She was a saint and already is displaying excellent clinical skills.
I will give shout outs to the staff who did excellent work and made my time at Oasis worth it and bearable: Tracy, Amy, Marcie, Sherry and Margaret (our house techs); Katie, Will, Wills and Hannah (therapists); and Bryan (one of the directors). Y’all were great.
I think the therapists are spread super thin and it would behoove Oasis to hire more.
I’m sorry to say that I have been to too many rehabs to count but if you are looking for something special for someone you really care for I would highly suggest “Insight Recovery” in Arden NC instead of Oasis. Way more personal and down to earth and definitely more one on one. Staff at Oasis is on the verge of being more like high school and fitting in. Very uncomfortable!! Good luck.. 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oasis is a great place to start the process of changing your life. I have been in the recovery community in Asheville before and only heard good things about the program from alumni and staff in the community. When I found myself in need of help, it was an easy decision to put my trust in them. The staff is unlike any I have experienced in a treatment setting. They’re not only professional, but compassionate. During my time in the program, the clinical team received constructive criticism from the patients and actively listened and made changes to the structure of the program the following week.
They offer a team of professional substance abuse counselors who meet with their patients regularly for check ins as well as in depth sessions.
The men’s houses are a comfortable and safe place to begin to rebuild connections and a community of sober people. They’re clean, comfortable, and monitored by the behavioral health technicians at all times.
Oasis offers a variety of group therapy sessions throughout the day like grief counseling, medication education, yoga, breathwork, and other important sessions to help their patients understand the root causes of their behaviors and ultimately their addictions. They also believe in showing that it’s possible to have fun without using drugs or alcohol by taking the group on hikes all around WNC and the surrounding areas. In my time, they took the group to hockey games, axe throwing, go karting, snow tubing, and top golf.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the program and am beyond grateful for the opportunity to receive the help I needed when I arrived. If you or someone you know is in need of help arresting their drug and alcohol addiction, I couldn’t possibly recommend Oasis more. Reach out and contact their admissions department to find out more about this amazing program.
It has been a year since - and I only score my experience at a 2 because it did lead me to sobriety. Outside of the profoundly positive therapy sessions, I would give this program a 0. My living situation was ideal until a septic tank burst in the women’s house. Feces flooded the floor to the point that women were leaping over it to get out of their bedrooms. It was cleaned three days later by regular employees, rather than a hazard team. The contents of the flooding required a professional evaluation rather than any average deep-clean. I could go on and on but wanted to keep this as brief as possible while getting my point across. Out-patent: I couldn’t recommend a better place. Just do NOT stay there. Oasis recovery helped me become the spiritually healing person I am now. The staff is amazing, the classes are intriguing, and the activities are super FUN!!! Oasis completely changed my life for the better so I highly recommend this treatment facility!!!! Not only is it amazing, but it helped me restart and pushed me to be my best self. I’m super thankful for Oasis and all the staff
