The campground is located approximately 37 miles east of Silver City, along NM Hwy 152. Located on North side of road. Easily identified by posted signs.
A pull off campground that has more going for it than it looks at first pass. While there's only a few places to pitch a tent, the gentle burbling stream, bird songs, and overall serenity of the place make it well worth the quick trip, or even a stop on a longer one. Clean bathroom with sticked toilet paper, picnic benches, bbq pits and tall trees set in the picturesque gorge.
The campground is about 100-150 yards long on the north side of highway and is easy to find as it is well signed. Lower Gallinas Camp Ground is CLOSED. The creek has water and there were many birds active including painted redstarts and spotted owls calling at night. There aren’t any trails from camp but our group enjoyed hiking up and down stream within a mile or two of camp. Vault toilets were the only amenities.
Super nice and relaxing. It has space for RVs, picnic tables, fireplaces that can be used as grill. The creek is accessible. Restroom available.
Too many rocks! Everyone kept tripping. But that's the nature of being near the stream. It was pretty but full of dog poo. So sad that people can't clean up after their dogs. No water or electricity and there is 1 bathroom thats just the 🕳️.
