Upper Karr Canyon Campground is located off of NM6563 (the Sunspot Scenic By-way) and has a 200 person capacity There are 2 fire rings, toilet, and garbage depositories are provided. RVs limited 16'.
From Cloudcroft, take NM130 south and turn right onto NM6563 (Sunspot Scenic Byway). Continue along the Sunspot Highway for around 7 miles and to your left, just over the ridge you'll see a sign for the Upper Karr Recreation Area. This road can be difficult to spot so keep your eyes open.
Great campground. Love the area. Dog friendly. Kid friendly. The sites are primitive with no running water. Portable bathroom.
Beautiful area for those who appreciate nature, good for a nice hike, dress for the weather, bring your water and snacks. Remember to take your trash with you.
Beautiful place to stay while in Lincoln National Forest. Paved roads so easy drive for any car. Can have a number of ppl on the weekends but it’s free! Weekdays are a little quieter. Nice scenic walking paths, maintained vault toilets, clean grounds. Would recommend a visit.
