About Campground

This is a great place for a picnic or overnight camping. Cherry Creek is by one of the most scenic parts of the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic ByWay. The campground is located along NM Highway 15 and is surrounded by dense mixed conifer. It is a cool place in the summer for people to enjoy a day's outing or for those wishing to camp overnight. If there has been a little snow during the winter, you will find a trickle of water in the small stream that runs through the campground. In the autumn hillsides turn into a beautiful mosaic of golden aspens, rusty oaks, and bright red sumac.

Directions

The campground is located fourteen miles north of Silver City on the East side of State Highway 15.

Great campsite. No fee. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked. Decent amount of space between most of the sites. Nice picnic tables and fire pits. Plenty of shade and trees for our hammock. Access road was a little bumpy and wet but not terrible. A few hiking trails were a nice addition.

Nice quiet campground by the creek. Restroom was clean and the fire pit is always a big plus to have.

Perfect little spot nestled on the side of a winding forest road. Surprisingly quiet for being next to a road. Get there early or you won't get a spot! Nice for a few days of relaxing car camping. They have a permanent private restroom which you can lock but it can smell a bit foul, it is a hole in the ground after all. We had fun collecting rocks in the dried up stream next to our site. My daughter loved the close proximity to other campers and made friends with a little two year old girl! We will be back!
