Exploring the UP is such a cool idea but why is a simple PRIVATE and affordable campsite impossible to find? That's why I decided to fix the problem.
I realized my location is ideal for exploring the major UP attractions like Pictured Rocks, Taquamenon Falls and Kitchittikippi. And there’s even a convenience store within walking distance!
You’re not stacked on top of your neighbors and you can’t see any buildings from the sites.
The sites are carved out in some rolling hills and older growth forest.
Woodpeckers, hummingbirds, chipmunks, mallards, wood ducks, turtles, a hawk carrying a big ole bullfrog overhead. (Poor little fella’)
Showers are also available in town (Pickelmans gas station).
Turn on Florence drive from M-28 and follow the road, sites are on the left; sites 4,3, and 2 are first, then site 1 is last on the left.
I recently did a weekend personal retreat at Earthwell. It was exactly what I was looking for – a cozy private space for practice in the middle of nature, but also close to a kitchen and shower. The blanket of snow on the ground made it extra quiet and magical. The cabin I stayed in had cheery yellow walls, the bed was comfortable, and I was able to adjust the temperature however I liked. Ariana the caretaker was always accessible if I needed anything. I look forward to returning to Earthwell in the future.
I went to EarthWell for a 1-day retreat. It was absolutely lovely. It was very laid-back, but our hosts were still gracious and accommodating. The grounds were beautiful. Will definitely return.
I spent four nights at the EarthWell Retreat while I was attending a workshop in Dexter, Michigan. EarthWell, is a slice of heaven, filled with trails, reading nooks, and even a wooden bench swing. Coming from a very stressful job, it was exactly the environment I was seeking. The Spike Cabin is beautifully constructed and has a stunning view of the pond. I stayed by myself and felt very at home and safe.
At night you can hear the gentle sounds of the wild life and see the starts or moon shinning down on the water. I sat out with a hot coffee in the morning and truly never wanted to leave. I hope to go back next summer!!
I am absolutely smitten with Earthwell Retreat Center!! I was looking for something close to home that allowed me to retreat into nature and focus on my growth and spirituality. I got all of this and more by attending 4 very different experiences at the center over the last year. I have attended two silent retreats facilitated by Emily and two mother retreats facilitated by Miriam. These women are truly gentle and welcoming in their presence. The warmness I experienced allowed me to be vulnerable and self-accepting in a way that I never thought possible. The opportunity to truly let go and heal in a community of other women is exactly what I have needed. The space to explore my inner world without needing to be anything on the outside is such an important practice. These women have helped me navigate what it means to be ME, a woman, mother, human being, and last but not least, a deeply feeling soul.
I attended a Day of Renewal for Helping Professionals, and I had a wonderful experience. As someone who often places the needs of others before my own, I have been susceptible to burnout in the past. This day reminded me that self-care is not just important, but necessary. Ari and Emily are wonderful facilitators who are authentic, sincere, and gentle. The day flowed well between sessions of meditation and yoga, journaling, a sensory walk, a delicious lunch, and discussion. We had a great group! I came away feeling energized and inspired. The massage by Miriam was amazing, and I have already made an appointment to see her again next month! I highly recommend this retreat to anyone feeling a little burned out and looking to fill their internal bucket.
