Pros: location to bar harbor/Acadia

Heated pool

Free shuttle to bar harbor

Cons: Tent sites not assigned, so you have to find your own first come first serve. There are just random firepits around a fielded area and some wooded areas, some have no picnic tables.

The sites still had trash on them from previous campers and were not mowed.

The campground map indicated various bathroom areas where there were none- only 2 bath houses in the whole place and they were down by the full hookup sites, a far walk for tent campers.

The camp store hours are limited, and they close for lunch.

The facilities are not well cared for. We don’t mind dated at all but the bathrooms were gross, showers were covered in scum that looked like they’ve never been cleaned. The sign said cleaned daily 6-6:45 and we went in at 6:25 and there was no one in there and it had not been cleaned, so I’m guessing whoever does it does a very quick limited job of it.

The shower I took was cold. The water never got warm even after letting in run 10 minutes (a sign hung in the stall saying to be patient for the hot water)

There was a basketball hoop that was bent over and just laying there. No cones around it or anything.

The laundry room had 2 regular sized washers that were going the entire time we were there, the others were out of service and not enough for the # of campers.

I blame myself- I read other reviews but just couldn’t find anything else available. If you can at all book a better place in advance.

There's a lot to like about this campground. Fantastic location for access to Bar Harbor, Acadia, etc. Many trees add to an ambiance of camping and nature.

Only real con was that mid-way through out trip, the water from the spigot turned brown. I'm not sure if it was unhealthy, but it was very discolored. Gratefully, we had fresh water on board and switched over to our tank.

We stayed at the Cottage, arrived after the office closed. They never put the key in for cottage in the late check in package. No one would answer the phone. Called the corporate office, they couldn't get a hold of anyone. They're were other people waiting with us. Eventually someone came down to check everyone in. The cottage had. A basic sweep through done. Toothpaste stains in the sink, crumbs still around the stove. The couch has rips in it, some trim is being held on by tape. Overall it needs a lot of updating. On the plus side the staff was friendly & helpful when we found them & it's in a pretty good location.

Stayed Thursday 9/1 to 9/5 over Labor Day Weekend. The campground is conveniently located in Bar Harbor. The campsites are really nice. The staff are knowledgeable, very nice &friendly and super helpful. The bathrooms were very clean and the laundry facilities are adequate and only $2 for the washer and $2 for the dryer. They offer rolls of quarters at the reception desk. The views are picturesque over looking the Mt Desert Narrows Bay. They have free bus service to all the areas you want to go. We preferred to drive. Parking was never an issue. As for the other reviewers complaining about the price... you get what you pay for... Bar Harbor Campground is way overrated and it may be cheap, that's exactly what you're getting... cheap, poor service and an uncomfortable stay.

We stayed for 4 nights in a 37ft class A and our site, #129, was spacious, a full hook up and had direct views of the waterfront. They have any kind of site to match your preferences. We have traveled in our motorhome over 10,000 miles in the last 18 months over the entire Eastern third of the country from Florida and we have fairly high expectations....this place met our expectations.
