About Campground

The Mt. Baker National Recreation Area was created in conjunction with the 1984 Washington Wilderness Act to accommodate mixed recreation use in Schriebers Meadow. Hiking, horseback riding, camping and mountain climbing are popular summer activities. In winter snowmobilers can use the area when snow levels are more than two feet at Schriebers Meadow at Park Butte Trailhead. Snowmobile access is provided on Forest Service road 13 to Schriebers Meadow, into upper Rocky and upper Sulphur Creek, the upper Railroad Grade, Metcalfe Moraine and lower Easton Glacier. Large crevasses on the glaciated slopes of Mt. Baker may be hidden by snow bridges and not readily visible. Snowmobiles must stay within boundaries of the Mt. Baker National Recreation Area and outside of the adjacent Mt. Baker Wilderness. Check the Washington State Sno-Park for more information about snowmobiling. See also: Mt. Baker climbing information. Many miles of dirt road with potholes. Could not hike much on the trail because it turned into a bunch of rocks on one side and a river with no bridge on the other side

Beautiful place for a day hike or camping overnight. Many trails to explore plus many camping spots. One of my favorites.

Coming from Canada this is a sharp contrast for a National Park, such beauty of the scenery but complete lack of road maintenance to get there, the road up has probably not been fixed in years, full of potholes and totally uneven to the point where it can wreck your tires even despite the special charge to go visit, do not recommend if you don’t have a big 4x4 with high clearance. Better to visit the mountain via the Glacier town route… never again.

In the shadow of Mt. Baker, I found a world rugged and unyielding, yet profoundly beautiful. The trails wind through forests where the whispers of ancient trees tell stories of time itself. The air, crisp and invigorating, fills the lungs with a purity found only in these high altitudes. Each step is a communion with the earth, a dance with the untamed wilds that sprawl endlessly before me. The mountain, stoic and mighty, watches over the land with a solemn grace. In its presence, one finds a humbling sense of insignificance, yet an overwhelming connection to the grandeur of nature. This is a place where the spirit is both lost and found, amidst the echoes of the wilderness that resonate deep within the soul.
