Hi, I'm Frank Lastra, Owner/Innkeeper of Mountain Aire Cottages & Inn. April 2023 is my 24th year of welcoming and serving my guests in a friendly down-home manner. Check out the photos - all the interior remodeling I did by hand myself! If you're tired of the impersonal chain style hotels and want to experience lodging the way it used to be, I hope you will consider a stay with me. I operate the property by myself, and try my best to provide comfortable & friendly lodging for my guests. I'd like you to think of Mountain Aire as your home away from home! I proudly offer:

Beautiful and Affordable 1 or 2 Bedroom Cottages or Individual Kitchenette Motel Rooms.

There are plenty of nice small towns nearby as well, and Clayton is a perfect 'central jump off point' to do some day trips to see them. Come see what keeps my guests coming back year after year to The Mountain Aire in Clayton for 'casual comfortable charm' for their vacation experience!

We had an amazing stay. The cottage we stayed in was beautiful, clean, and had all the amenities you would need. The grounds were well kept and we loved walking through and viewing all the plants and trees. The views of the mountains were amazing. The owner Frank was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. We enjoyed our chats with him. We look forward to our next stay.

Stayed here many times over the years because, it’s cozy, clean, priced right, great view, out of the way without be out of the way and the owner Frank is the best host you’ll likely ever meet. There’s more, best to just experience and enjoy it.

Our stay at Mountain Aire Cottages & Inn was amazing! It is located closely to downtown Clayton. Frank (Owner) was very accommodating, friendly, personable, and genuinely wanted to make sure we had a great time! The rooms were exceptionally clean and comfortable. We will be be back. We have already booked for next year.

I don't know why we haven't stayed here before, but after our first stay it sure won't be our last!

We arrived around 4pm and was greeted by Frank, the owner/inkeeper. After taking care of the financials, he walked me to our room and made sure I was aware of the little things, like how to operate the mini-split AC/Heater and the TV (2 remotes and cable). There was also a personalized welcome note on the door! What a nice touch!

We opted for an Inn room since we were only staying one night. The room was cozy and had a full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and microwave. There is also a large ceiling fan in the main area. We had no issues keeping the climate at a comfortable temperature in the room. Two large recliners and a comfortable bed adorned the room. The bed is tall, but you are provided with steps on both sides to facilitate getting up and under the covers.

Outside, there is a communal fire pit with seating and two large tree swings. The pit area is stocked with logs, kindling, a log splitter, sledgehammer, and anything else you need to get a roaring fire going. There is a great view from the pit area as well.

The location is perfect in our opinion. You are off the main Hwy 441, but literally a 2 minute drive to downtown Clayton where there are a number of hometown restaurants and shops. It could probably be walked in 15-20 minutes. Our trip to Black Rock Mountain State Park was only 13 minutes.

Frank hadn't met my wife before our checkout, but I had told him her name. When he saw us loading up, he make it a point to introduce himself to my wife and call her by her name!

The personal touches were awesome, and made us feel like we were valued guests at a old style Inn vs a folio number in a computer. Old style charm at it's best!

We will definitely be back and look forward to a longer stay in one of the cottages! Highly suggest you give Mountain Aire a try!!
