I don't know why we haven't stayed here before, but after our first stay it sure won't be our last!
We arrived around 4pm and was greeted by Frank, the owner/inkeeper. After taking care of the financials, he walked me to our room and made sure I was aware of the little things, like how to operate the mini-split AC/Heater and the TV (2 remotes and cable). There was also a personalized welcome note on the door! What a nice touch!
We opted for an Inn room since we were only staying one night. The room was cozy and had a full size refrigerator, microwave, toaster, and microwave. There is also a large ceiling fan in the main area. We had no issues keeping the climate at a comfortable temperature in the room. Two large recliners and a comfortable bed adorned the room. The bed is tall, but you are provided with steps on both sides to facilitate getting up and under the covers.
Outside, there is a communal fire pit with seating and two large tree swings. The pit area is stocked with logs, kindling, a log splitter, sledgehammer, and anything else you need to get a roaring fire going. There is a great view from the pit area as well.
The location is perfect in our opinion. You are off the main Hwy 441, but literally a 2 minute drive to downtown Clayton where there are a number of hometown restaurants and shops. It could probably be walked in 15-20 minutes. Our trip to Black Rock Mountain State Park was only 13 minutes.
Frank hadn't met my wife before our checkout, but I had told him her name. When he saw us loading up, he make it a point to introduce himself to my wife and call her by her name!
The personal touches were awesome, and made us feel like we were valued guests at a old style Inn vs a folio number in a computer. Old style charm at it's best!
We will definitely be back and look forward to a longer stay in one of the cottages! Highly suggest you give Mountain Aire a try!!
