Wheatland Park sits along the sparkling shores of Pomme de Terre Lake, known as the "gem of the Ozarks," for its deep, clear waters.
The phrase "Pomme de Terre" is French for potato or "apple of the earth." Most likely, the river was named by early French trappers and fur traders, who discovered plants resembling potatoes on the riverbanks.
Pomme de Terre Lake is popular among water skiers and anglers. A number of coves on the lake provide seclusion for ideal fishing conditions, regardless of power boating on other areas of the lake.
Largemouth bass, crappie and white bass are common catches, but it is the stocked muskie fishing that is particularly popular as muskie are rare to the region.
Wheatland Park has 41 campsites with electric and water hookups and 26 sites with electric hookups only. The accessible group picnic shelter fits up to 75 guests and has electricity.
Additional amenities include two shower houses, a boat ramp, courtesy dock, playground and a swim beach.
Pomme de Terre Lake is located in the rugged, tree-topped hills of the west-central Missouri Ozarks. The lake is long and winding with 7,790 surface acres and 113 miles of shoreline.
An excellent golf course and one of the country's best dirt race tracks are near Wheatland Park.
From Springfield, MO, take Highway 13 North to Bolivar, MO, then travel on Highway 83 northeast past Elkton, MO to Highway 254. Follow Highway 254 E to The Triangle and take CR205 South. Follow signs to park.
Great swimming spot. Some of the spots are setup for hookups on the opposite side from most trailers, but we made it work. Great family spot. Lots of fishing. There were other camp guests that left their trash laying around & didn't respect the wildlife there which was discouraging, but thats not the fault of the park. Overall we had fun & would go back again.
Another successful annual family reunion. We always enjoy spending the weekend together at this park. Highly recommend
Love this place. I know some people really don't like how tight of a squeeze certain spots are. This place has a few first come first serve spots which is so nice to have due to many spots gets reserved 6 months prior !!! Some of us are so busy we don't even know what's next lol. This place is very friendly. Trash is picked up and emptied. Showers /bathrooms are clean. There is a playground. You have to kind of scope out the place to see what space looks good for you. Park rangers are nice. Beach is great ! This place is pretty chill. If you're looking for a party spot, this ain't it. Definitely family oriented. Alot of spots have shade ! Very important lol. They all pretty much have a fireplace.
Our family is full of avid campers, and year after year, we choose to come here at least twice. We love how level the sites are, the cleanliness of the shower houses, the amazing playground equipment, the beautiful wildlife, and most importantly the lake access!
Stayed here for the first time this past weekend (6/9-6/11/2023). The site is awesome & lake view is gorgeous. Site we stayed in was very level with pull through pad & plenty of parking space (made it easy to set up the camper). Fantastic view of the lake.
The only somewhat negative thing (not really negative … just feedback) might be that the shower house/restroom only has 2 shower stalls & 2 toilet stalls in the area we stayed in. (Of course, it’s not much of an issue when the majority of campers there probably have bathrooms in their campers, however there are visitors that are in tents or campers without restrooms, so it might make it inconvenient). Overall, it’s a great campground that we’ll definitely recommend & return to.
