M-22 to and thru the Village of Northport. Take 201 north out of Northport approximately 9.5 miles ( also called Lighthouse Point Rd) to the campground/picnic area/Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum.
Campground is primitive with vault toilets, no showers, waterfront campsites are spacious and views are priceless, on my stay in September 2023 I was fortunate enough to see the Northern Lights directly from campsite .. location is fantastic, with scenic drives both to from campgrounds regardless of which direction your coming from when arriving / going to when leaving ; note I did have reasonably decent T-Mobile cellular coverage from my waterfront campsite
Visited Grand Traverse Lighthouse, very pretty area! Lighthouse is well kept, and has a lot of historical items. They had the ground decorated for Halloween, which was really fun!
We had the most beautiful campsite I've ever been at in my entire life. It was clean, semi-primitive camping. The staff was nice and helpful, we got wood several times and joked around with them quite a bit. It was such a pleasant experience, I'm already planning our next trip back!
We did have some loud guests next to us on one of the evenings, I'm sure we could have said something or complained but we were so exhausted. It had nothing to do with the park or the staff there, just inconsiderate guests.
Sites smaller than pictures showed, uneven and rocky... but it is rustic camping. Wood sold on site was basically slabs of bark. Get your wood before arriving. Otherwise, we had a great time. Very peaceful, great breeze, and there were plenty of rocks to pick over.
Great State Park on the lake all the way up the Leelanau Peninsula! We had been to the lighthouse several times but found ourselves staying at the campground for two nights right along the beach. Rustic camping so no showers and not a lot of amenities. But beautiful views, sunset skies and fun rocky beaches for finding Petoskey stones!
