Abol Campground is located at Baxter State Park
Stayed in lean-to 7, an idillic setting situated next to bubbling Abol stream (much closer than the campground map would have you believe). Close but not too close to an outhouse. We loved the Little Abol Falls Trail that starts from the camp less than a mile to a small but beautiful waterfall. Fire wood was sold for $3 a bundle at the camp.
The ranger at the campground was super cool and answered all our questions. Love that it's rustic with no water or electricity at the site and only tents or renting a lean to for the night. The waterfall trail from the campground was cute and short and the falls themselves were gorgeous.
Great place to camp. Great location. Driving distance to the Ledges where you can swim and picnic on the large area of smooth stone. I have tubed down the mild rapids into the large pool and below. Close to Katahdin Stream, or you can hike Katahdin right out of the campground. I got the last spot just before the trail to the falls on Abol Stream. Hung out there several times.
If you love hiking, make this a destination. Great campground for family and friends. Very clean and great people to help you out of you need anything at all. Mount katahdin is able to be seen from a decent amount of the campground. So many different trails and also swimming spots. You can find just about anything you would like to do within a short hike.
