It's about a 2-mile hike to campgrounds. These sites do not have water, restrooms nearby, fire rings or grills. Sites are only reservable at park headquarters. You must arrive during office hours and at least two hours before dusk to purchase a permit.
Great local state park. Close to DFW for a day trip or to stay in a hotel at Mineral Wells town less than 10 minutes away.
Great hiking.
Beautiful rock formations to crawl around in and on.
Loved the park! My 3rd official one so far on my State Park passport. The rocky terrain makes for a fun technical hike. The rock climbing area with huge boulders was the highlight. That place was so amazing. I heard there was a section somewhere nearby that you can make your way through a narrow canyon like crevices. Probably best I didn't find it, I wouldn't have fit through anyways.
What fun park! We rode the trailway from the state park to the town and back and it was a great ride. Also loved exploring Penitentiary Hollow and the the lakefront trail. Good campsites and clean bathrooms! They haven’t been updated yet but you can tell the park hosts care for the park! Can’t wait to come back and ride more of the trailway and explore more trails!
Older facilities, yet they are clean. Great hiking. Check to make sure the trails are open before you go. Rain will close most of them. Lots of birds to enjoy.
The lake is so clean and beautiful. I kayak and they have a kayak/canoe launch ramp like I've never seen before and it's such a great idea! I had reservations and check in was fast and friendly. It's very quiet this time of year and I love it here. The trailer spots are all back-in but they have generous room to do so . Normally I avoid parks with no pull thru spots but I was in and set up in about 10 minutes. Large picnic tables, fire rings and separate BBQ pits at every site. The bathrooms have hot showers and flush toilets. There are Bird watching blinds and great fishing. And the little library to share a nook to read. Have fun and Happy New Year 2024🕛🎉🎉
