Loved the fact it was free camping next to a stream. Site was level and never Ouray.

Excellent nordic skiing! Great place to sight bighorn sheep on the drive up!

It was pretty busy with the hunting season and off-roaders, but very close to Ouray!

We were looking for a camping experience near Ouray, Co. all the camping spots were full so we traveled eight miles up the road to Ironton. We found several beautiful spots next to the creek and had a wonderful stay. It was the perfect base camp for exploring the San Juan mountains. These dispersed camps had fire rings but there was a fire ban in effect. Camp stove cooking was allowed and was sufficient for our needs. It was very warm at night so a fire was not needed for warmth. There are no bathrooms or water nearby but a great place to get away and unplug.
