The North Rim campground is remote and has just 13 sites dispersed among pinyon and juniper trees. It is first-come, first-served all season. The last 7 miles of the North Rim Road and the campground road are unpaved. Services are limited. To protect vegetation and forest resources, please use designated tent pads and do not tie, hang, or attach anything to trees. This campground fills quickly during the summer, especially on weekends. Maximum combined length of RV, car and/or trailer is 22 feet.
The North Rim is 11 miles southwest of Crawford. From CO Highway 92, turn west on Black Canyon Road approximately 3 miles south of Crawford. Follow the road signs to the park. The last 7 miles are unpaved. Once you reach the rim, turn right toward the ranger station and campground. The campground is past the ranger station. The North Rim is closed to vehicles in the winter.
Off the beaten path, getting there is almost an adventure in itself. If you like hiking without the crowds the North Rim is for you. If you want to stay close to your vehicle take the scenic North Rim Road, this is about 5 miles long with a number of awesome viewpoints. Bring your camera!
Arrived on a Sunday. Less than half the sites taken. Quiet. Clean, newer restrooms. Hikes were awesome. Easy access to wonderful viewsites.
The North Rim of the Black Canyon in Gunnison National Park is breathtaking. 13 sites available to those who get there first. Take the 2.5 mile hike out to Deadhorse Gulch. You won’t regret it.
Get here early or don't come at all. I've camped here many times and every time it fills up by 2 or 3 pm. Yet ALL NIGHT people keep driving through the loop looking for a spot. This is INCREDIBLY rude to the campers as people will drive though with the brights on, sometimes going around the loop several times. Don't do this! If its after dark find somewhere else to camp. This is not a hotel. Nobody wants your headlights pointed at their camp.
