12 campsites on Wallace Lake with picnic tables and fire rings. Within the campground are vault toilets and drinking water. Fishing in the lake. Primitive boat launch can be used for non-motorized canoes or rowboats on the lake. The drive on Salmon River Mountain Road offers fantastic views of the Salmon River Range and of deep pine forests.
From Salmon, go 3 miles north on US 93, 14 miles northwest on Forest Road 023, and 4 miles south on FR 020. The forest roads are unpaved and rough. FR 020 is not recommended for RVs or cars pulling trailers. Check for road conditions before traveling into the forest.
It's quite nice, but if you're using Google for directions do not take the left that takes you up a steep and rough road, you could damage your vehicle if it's not meant for off road. Pass the left and continue on the road until five corners and follow the road signs for a much safer drive.
One of the most pristine little lakes I've been to. With gorgeous scenery all around and some very well kept campgrounds, Wallace Lake is a true gem in the Idaho wilderness.
The lake was an absolute delight to fish, with a decent range for its size. You'll find Bull, Rainbow, Brook and Tiger Trout waiting for ya. The limit is 2 Trout per person to maintain sustainability.
Would absolutely recommend visiting if you're near Salmon, be aware however that it's a bit of a drive and the road is quite rough, SUV/Truck recommended, minimum AWD.
Like Joel said, DO NOT follow Google maps. It will try to take you up a horrible road. Instead, follow the directions to the fairgrounds. Right after the fairgrounds, hang a left and follow the signs.
The campground was really quiet. Went the first weekend of August and there was maybe 4-5 sites used, and we had two of them. The fishing was crazy good! Took the fly rod out on the kayak and pulled in 20 rainbows and tigers, all catch and release. Fun place!
Nice! They even stocked the campgrounds with fire wood. The road is behind the fair grounds. Very quiet, beautiful lake, and clean bathrooms! Bring your bug spray for overnights!
