Northern side has a handful of shaded picnic tables right next to the beach. Snorkeling on the north side is perfect for small kids as it is shallow with a sandy path in the middle of rocks.
This beach was one of my family's favorites on the big island. It had the warmest water and the least rocks, and the waves weren't too big, which made it great for the younger kids. Not really a snorkeling spot, but we still went back for a second trip. Lots of shade from seating under big beautiful trees if you get a good spot. The bathrooms were clean and there was a foot washing station. Also handicap accessible. We even saw a rainbow 🌈
Such a beautiful beach. Soft sand. Playground. Plenty of music and picnic tables. Bath house very clean.
Spencer Beach Park is the gem of the North Kohala Coast. Come here to watch whales from the heights of the National Monument above the beach. The Monument is Hawaiian for whale Hill. The beach is sandy and level. Water is cloudy for snorkelers. Restrooms are clean. Water fountains are many. Can get crowded on weekends so come early and bring food and a sand blanket. People are friendly and smiling. Spirit of Aloha.
We absolutely loved coming here on our recent trip to Hawaii. There was always tons of parking and there were a few bathrooms on site which was great.
They had a ton of picnic benches and there was even a spot for camping. Folks brought their little kiddos and some were snorkeling. It's a very lovely beach!
