The Grand Lake region is a great place to see all sorts of wildlife and waterfowl year-round. In the late fall to early spring, the area is an especially good time to see American Bald Eagles and occasionally a Golden Eagle. The best viewing is below Pensacola Dam on the scenic Grand River. From late October through March, this area below the dam is a haven for the eagles as they hunt for small fish, often snatching them off the surface of the water, or even stealing them from other birds. The best time to watch the birds in action is early in the morning
From intersection of Hwys 82/28, go south approx 1 mile to Hwy 28. Turn east, go approx 1/2 mile, turn south on Hwy 82A. Take first left to stop sign. Turn east onto river road. Follow road until you cross over the river. Next right will be Grand Cherokee Golf course where park office is located
Great camp ground. Clean, quiet, not overcrowded. Definitely coming back. The proximity to trails, the Neosho River, the dam, etc. Make it a wonderful location.
We loved this park. We climbed rocks and went thru water with our jeep and it was so much fun
Was up to my ears in American Bald Eagles, OHV trails and some of the friendliest staff, locals and fishermen I’ve probably ever met. The 2 days I spent there I wish could have been a full week. Good times and will be back!
The people are friendly, ... And the bathrooms are clean......
My husband and I stayed here a couple days ago. It was loud at night and very bright. Lots of traffic, road noise. If you are tent camping, and you are a light sleeper, I do not recommend. Other than that, it was very nice. Nowhere to swim, besides the pool.
