Guy Sandy Campground is open seasonally for the summer. It opens no later than Memorial Day Weekend and closes no earlier than Labor Day Weekend. It is located on the western shore of Lake of the Arbuckles. This primitive campground offers basic amenities only. RVs are permitted, but no hookups are available. Communal water spigots and pit toilets are available. Each campsite has a picnic table and fire ring with a grill.
Located on the western shore of Lake of the Arbuckles. Access from the southern end of Chickasaw Trail.
We were looking for a pretty, not overrun campground closer to OKC. This being an hour and a half away definitely is a plus. Not a busy campground.
The campground itself is beautiful (for Oklahoma) and green, especially lots 33 to 35 which overlooks the Lake of Arbuckles. This whole campground is on a hill so to get to the lake you take a long walk or quick drive down the road to the boat docks or follow a slightly precarious barely there path down the waters edge. No host, but if you call the number on the board at the entrance they are very responsive.
Costs $14 a night.
This campground is perfect for boaters. If you want to hike, be prepared to drive around 20 minutes to a trail either in Davis, Sulfur, or Turner Falls. These trails are fine, but driving to hike kind of takes you out of the camping mode. It was fun though touring the area and checking out the shops around the Artisian. Walmart is only a 10 minute drive away in Davis, so bonus.
The camp sites were in groupings so making you feel more secluded, but with a few neighbors. Facilities are permanent, but very well kept and clean, port-a-potties. Water is from a water well pipe. Dumpster on site, with aluminum and plastic recycling bins.
Ticks are rampant here so that is a big negative. My husband got the bull's eye mark from a tick bite. We are both now on antibiotics.
Right now, I do not know if we will come back to this camp site unless it is for one night due to allergies. We stayed a second night and our allergies got aweful. Overall though the area really is pretty and it was a relaxing time.
Wasn't bad except for the boats and jet skis were in the swimming area and causing bad wakes. The kids couldn't hardly swim at all because of it. The game warden was stopped multiple times and never helped. Had to call the sheriff's office. Very dissatisfied with the care of swimmers safety there!
