About Campground

Big Hart Campground is located at the confluence of Big Creek and Hart Creek on the western end of beautiful J. Strom Thurmond Lake, the largest Corps of Engineers lake project east of the Mississippi River. The 70,000 acre lake and its 1,000+ miles of shoreline provide excellent boating, water skiing, swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicking. Recreation Thurmond Lake provides some of the best fishing, hunting, and water sports in the southeastern United States. Anglers fish for largemouth bass, bream, crappie, catfish and striped bass. The large lake offers endless boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing and swimming opportunities. Facilities Big Hart Campground is situated in a wooded area on the waterfront. One group campsite and 31 family campsites are available, all with 50-amp electrical hookups. Amenities include flush and vault toilets, showers, drinking water, a dump station, playground, beach, boat ramp and dock. Natural Features Hot, humid summers and mild, pleasant winters characterize this heavily wooded area on the shore of Thurmond Lake. A mixed pine and hardwood forest covers the site, providing summer shade and fall color. Elevation is 235' above sea level. Wildlife is abundant around the lake. AMAZING! So peaceful and serene. The camp host met us at the campsite and gave us all the information and a cell number if we needed anything. The pull through was amazing and perfect for our rig! Definitely on our “come back to” list!

Times like these I wish I was a bit more miserly with my 5 star reviews. Because THIS campground is 5 stars.

1st star. Contacted them just before the closing time. Told them we needed a space for the night. We had a poor connection and the guy on the other end was SO patient! Gave him some rig info as he requested and he picked out the perfect site. So friendly, so helpful.

2nd stat. We arrived well after dark.and he flagged us down to make sure we were clear on directions. We were in fact a bit fuzzy. We would have figured it out, but it probably would have included at least two turn around, which is a drag when pulling a trailer in the dark!

3rd star. Second staffer stopped by after we were hooked up just to check on us, what? Yep! She took time to give out old pit bull some love.

4th star. The site itself. These spaces are generous in size and super easy to maneuver. And not just our site, we checked this place out in detail. We were on the lake, beautiful view and private setting. Site are clean and the setting beautiful and well separated.

5th star. Location is great, not far from I-17 and Thomson SC yet no road noise. Cost of $30 night with hook up is very reasonable. We had decent, not super, WiFi

I just wish we’d had more time to enjoy this jewel.

My wife and I just got back from staying here. Originally we were going to just stay two days but enjoyed ourselves so much we added another day. Our camp host (name escapes me right now) was wonderful and very accommodating and our site (27) was a fabulous site. It was a very clean park and quiet with wonderful views of the lake. If I had a complaint the only real one that I would have is there are no trails in the park. It is close to Thomson so you are close enough for shopping etc if you need anything. We will be back in the future!
