From jct Denali National Park entrance & Parks Hwy 3 (Mile Post 237.4): Go 6 mi S on Parks Hwy 3.
Great location for Denali National Park. That's it... keys occasionally worked for doors, no phone in rooms, lights falling off the wall, have to pay for Internet, have to go get towels yourself from laundry, cobwebs and insects in bathroom.
We enjoyed our stay at the Grizzly Bear. It was remote, quiet and peaceful.
PROS: It's quiet, simple and out of the way. Beautiful views. The one Thai food truck was excellent.
CONS: Rooms don't have refrigerators or microwaves. We found ourselves driving down the road in either direction to find food. There is really no cell service here at all (we have Verizon), AND the lodge actually charges for wifi. Didn't know people did that anymore, especially with no cell service. You can walk across the road to the other lodge and hook up to their "free" wifi. BUT if you need to stay in contact with family or work, you better plan on spending about $10 a day on wifi. We didn't realize this or we probably would have chosen a different location.
The room was neat and clean. We really enjoyed having a balcony which looks out on the river. It was so pleasant to sit on the balcony and just listen to the river and sometimes the train. We enjoyed being close to the park but away from all the big resorts.
Although rooms were like log cabins, once you step in the room, it was very well appointed with all the facilities and great bathroom. View from the cabin was awesome! It was bit cold in the morning but we sat in the balcony to have our coffee and it was Devine experience - Feeling the magnificent Denali National Park in the Backdrop and seeing sunrise!
We thought our room was great and thought it was the most memorable room to date. The setting was spectacular of the balcony with views of the mountains and the river. We left our door open one night to fall asleep to the current. Room was clean and shower was great. Would be our go to spot next time near Denali.
