About Campground

Cool Creek is a private 14 acre horse, goat, sheep and chicken farm, with a friendly barn cat named Byrdie! There is plenty of space to recreate or to just enjoy the peace under the Willow Oaks. We are just minutes from the **Shakori Hills Community Arts Center** and its many live musical events. We are also convenient to the artsy village of **Saxapahaw on the Haw River** and the quickly expanding **downtown Pittsboro** area with its many dining and shopping options. Chapel Hill/Carrboro and Raleigh are not far beyond. In addition, there are many Haw River access points nearby for trail walking and kayaking/canoeing. **Jordan Lake State Recreational Area** is 20 minutes away. There are miles of **mountain bike trails** within a 30 minute radius as well as the farm being located on a popular **road biking route**. Come enjoy! Wood bundles and farm fresh eggs are for sale, just ask!

Directions

Turn onto the gravel driveway opposite the 732 and 738 mailboxes on Castle Rock Farm Road. The driveway is about 1000 feet and will dead end at the yellow barn. stay inside the cairns and parallel park in front of the barn off to the right (allowing others to still pass you on the left and continue around the circular driveway). A hands-free flashlight and mud boots are highly recommended. Please review the laminated sheet in the loft for additional farm details and I'm sure we'll cross paths at some point!

We absolutely love Cool Creek! Our horse has made herself at home here, Melissa and her family treat her like their own. They are wonderful people that truly care about the animals they have in their care and are always willing to offer any advice or help we need. If you are looking for a loving place for your horse this is it!!

Cool Creek is the perfect camp for children who love animals and the outdoors (which I think is most children!). Nestled in rural Chatham (but close enough to Pittsboro and Briar Chapel areas), Cool Creek is surrounded by a great mix of woods, open fields, meadows and as the name would indicate, a creek. It is very peaceful and warm enviroment. Melissa is terrific and has a great way with the children. Our older Daughter went last year and our Son this year and both absolutely loved the experience.

Our now-7-year-old LOVES Cool Creek camp! She went for the first time at age 6 and literally begged to go back ALL. YEAR. We just moved into our new home and one of the first things she did was scope out an appropriate tree where we could hang an authentic “Cool Creek Wood Swing!” She picked out the wood and the rope and it all had to be the real deal to live up to Cool Creek! They do amazing creative activities, have super cool special guests (they just did hammered copper creations!) and she comes home so stimulated and excited about all the adventures! I so wish we could have her there every week in the summer, but alas, it’s tough with work schedules being what they are. But totally worth the logistical puzzle for her to go for a couple of weeks in the summer! I hope there are school break camps this year too! Thanks, Melissa for a great adventure learning experience that reminds me of my own childhood!

I have been a long-time camper at Cool Creek Farm (Sept 2018 - Feb 2021 thusfar - and consistent from May 2020 through January 2021). I cannot possibly say enough good things about every aspect of my stays..... incredibly beautiful nature, the best star gazing views, friendly and helpful host, quietude and privacy; I felt at home every minute. If circumstances bring me back to camping there, and they may, I will feel at home straight away. A big thank you to one and all at Cool Creek Farm!

We had our son’s 10th birthday party at Cool Creek Farm. It’s his favorite camp, so he was eager to have his birthday party there. The location is beautiful, with lots of activities for kids including new playground equipment, a fabulous large swing, an enormous fire ring, 2 large picnic tables, and a large flat field with multiple games provided. Melissa was easy to work with and responsive. She was also helpful during the party, engaging with the kids, taking them to visit the goats, and helping me with various party hosting logistics. The price was reasonable, and the experience was so much more enjoyable than going to an indoor gym or facility. And with the flat rate, I didn’t hesitate to invite all guest family members to join. It was a relaxing, fun afternoon for all. Highly recommend!
