Pettigrew State Park is located in Washington and Tyrrell counties, seven miles south of Creswell off US 64. From US 64, take exit 558 to Creswell. Turn left at Main Street and go two miles (the road becomes Spruill's Bridge Road). Turn right on Thirty Foot Canal Road for five miles. Turn left on Lake Shore Road and the park office is on the right.
Another great North Carolina State Park that we had the privilege to stay at. The park is small, not that many sites. But the sites were spacious and very easy to back into with our Airstream. There are no water, electric or dump hook-ups. Each site had a picnic table and fire pit. The park had easy access to trails next to Phelps Lake plus a boat ramp. Another plus was that the park was adjacent to and within easy walking distance to Somerset Historic Place.
Great boardwalk trail and interesting cracked mud beaches made this hike a bit different from the norm. The massive e lake is a truly beautiful sight.
Some of the campsites are completely shaded and others are in the sun. Site 3 was very shady. The trails are nice. There is a large swimming area and 2 boat ramps. We went in August and it was very hot and humid throughout the day and night, along with a lot of bugs. Great dark sky views. I definitely recommend the park, but suggest going during a different time of year.
The plantation history could use some updates in their displays.
Park staff were very friendly.
