From Mellen, Wisconsin, take County Highway GG west for about 8 miles. Turn right onto Forest Service Road 187/Mineral Lake Road and continue for 3 miles to the intersection with Forest Service Road 198/Pine Stump Corner. Turn right and continue less than a mile to the campground sign.
Nestled along the north country trail. Great site with an outhouse and a short walk to a lookout of the lake with a couple points for fishing and stargazing at night bc it's very open. Also a boat launch nearby
No longer a campground. I don't understand why they are closing the campgrounds all around
I believe the campground may be closed. I walked here on the North Country Trail. The trail is great.
Campground is still closed from budget cuts a few years ago. The North Country senic trail runs thru here. The boat landing is open.
Lake Three is home to an 8-site rustic campground previously managed by the US Forest Service. The campground was gated in 2015 due to budget cuts and has not reopened since.
Amid 2020’s surge in demand for camping and recreation, final procedural hurdles are being cleared in the forest service to remove the remaining infrastructure at Lake Three Campground.
A boat landing still remains, along with an inoperable water pump and vault toilet. The pump and toilet are planned to be removed as the campground is decommissioned.
The campground and boat landing are located directly on a segment of the North Country Trail, offering a scenic day-hike from the parking lot. Lake Three provides ideal quiet water for canoeing and fishing.
