Wanoka Recreation Area is located off an ATV route that connects to local ATV trails and other open routes. Visitors may ride their ATV or smaller UTVs to and from the route. ATVs may not be used to drive around the campground for fun. ATVs need to be kept on their trailers or on the parking spur on the site. Located approximately 7 miles east of Iron River, this campground is located on a 15-acre lake that has panfish and trout. Wanoka Lake Campground has 20 sites. Each site has a defined parking spur, fire ring, picnic table, and tent pad, and can accommodate RV's up to 35 feet. Please help to not increase the size of the area and keep all equipment on the parking spur. There are two pull-through sites. Drinking water and vault toilets are available. There is a carry-in-boat access. Did you forget something? Don't sweat it! The small town of Iron River can meet your camping supply needs ranging from groceries to firewood. If you need an out-of-state fishing or ATV/UTV license, Iron River gas stations have these available for purchase. So, if you like to fish, kayak, hike, bike or enjoy being close to town, then the Wanoka Recreation Area is the place for you, conveniently located just a short drive from Iron River.

I would give five stars but online it says $12 at the campground it says $15 and the drinking water was sub par. There is a sign that says it passed all drinking water quality tests but has visable rust. This water was so rusty it looked like flint michigan water! It tasted like blood really badly and after passing it through my filter three times the rust was still visable and the blood flavor was still there. The lake however was clean and beautiful and full of fish and frogs the campground was beautiful and well cared for . I will be back and be bringing my own water
If you're interested in looking for crystals, you need to visit this place! We found over 50+ pieces of Quartz in only 1 hour of searching for them. The camping spots are also very spacious. Every spot has a fire pit, a flat area to have an RV or tent, and a picnic table. There were a lot of empty spots and a lot of places to choose from. All of this comes to $15 a night.
Beautiful well kept area. Our spot was looking over a small pond. Quiet and peaceful.
Some sites offer great privacy, others are very open to the campground road. A few sites have a lake view and include trails down to the waterfront. There's also common waterfront access in the middle of the campground where you can carry in a canoe or kayak without much trouble. The shore looks potentially swimmable.
Drinking water is offered at a pump house and hand pump; it tasted fine at both.
Everything here is first-come, first-served. It's a great setup for campers passing through the area on highway 2 wanting to spend the night.
If you're not picky about which site you get, you'll have no issue finding a spot here, even on peak season weekends. Early season, late season or midweek you'll likely have your pickings among numerous excellent site options.
Nice, shady campground next to a small lake. There is only one pit toilet for the entire campground, but there are two water pumps. Several of the sites are in very close proximity to the lake. The lake was quiet and good for kayaking. The highway noise from US hwy 2 is very audible throughout the day and night. There is a nice fire ring and picnic table at each site.
