Highly impressed at the level of cleanliness throughout the entire park. We were a group that took 3 cars, we all managed to park together at every hike we took. For the amount of cars seen, barely came into contact with other people. The park has something to offer for all ages.
Absolutely a great, beautiful state park in Alabama. The highest point, actually. Stayed 5 days in a cabin. Enjoyed so many different hiking trails and looked out points of interest. Cabins are equipped with essential items for cooking. Your cabin has firepits, an outdoor grill, a table, and chairs overlooking mountain views.
We stayed at the motel around the end of June and not a day goes by where I don’t think about this beautiful place. Definitely worth a visit. The motel was right on the side of the mountain with a pool & was really clean. The views are amazing. We did the Bald Rock trail which has a wheelchair accessible boardwalk & we hiked to Pulpit Rock. The trail to Pulpit Rock starts out pretty steep but after that it gets better and the view is well worth it. We will definitely be back, we’re already planning our next trip & plan to stay even longer next time.
Some of the best views you can get in Alabama. If you've been to the Rockies or Sierra Nevadas then you know this isn't really "the mountains" but it's the closest you can get in AL.
If you're primitive camping - rent campsite P120 at the Upper Primitive site on Tower Road to have a spectacular view of the sunrise. Most of the other campsites are blocked by trees.
