Nice park that feels like SE MN. There's a lot of trees blowndown from a recent storm. It's better than nearby state parks in my opinion.
Wonderful, wonderful area to go hiking around in though you may have a lot of company on any given day!
I did a 2-mile hike from the trailhead off Canyon City Blvd. It was a nice trail in the woods with one place to access the river. At the end of the trail, there was a nice bench with a view of the oak savanna. The is a grass opening here and I hiked up a bit for some views of the other side of the river. This would be a great place for birding. In retrospect, I should have looked at the area on Gaia Maps beforehand. I would have seen that most of the trails are on the other side of the river. Also I was in shorts and sandals so I definitely was sticking to the trails that had been mowed. Next time I will go to the other side and wear long pants. The next day I paddle up from Dundas to the wilderness area. That was fun too. In mid August, I didn't encounter any mosquitoes.
Be prepared for a good hike downhill and uphill. Eagles were out today and the beavers are busy.
