CAMPING
Russian Gulch has 26 standard campsites, four equestrian campsites with corrals, and one group site. Reservations are strongly recommended in the summer. The campground is currently closed for the winter. Reservations can be made from May through Labor Day. Reservations for campsites are available up to six months in advance by calling 1-800-444-7275 or by clicking the reservations link at the top of this page.
HORSE CAMPING AND RIDING
Russian Gulch’s horse camp is on the northeast edge of the park, off Casper–Little Lake Road. The fee for each of four sites covers staging areas, corrals, and water troughs. Make reservations by calling 707-937-5804 (District Office). Horses are allowed on designated roads and trails only. No horse rental stables are available nearby.
The park is located two miles north of Mendocino on Highway 1.
Friendly Ranger at the booth let us in for an in-out visit without paying day-use fee. There's imited parking down below the bridge, but it's worthwhile just to drive down and check out the view real quick.
Accessibility: beach is very close to the parking area and restrooms, though you need to walk over a rickety driftwood bridge or else wade through (very shallow) creek to get to the sand/shore.
Russian Gulch has been a vacation spot since the 1930’s! It’s a gem of a spot to camp, or just chill for the day. There is also a free parking spot at the south end of the park. The road is called 509D. The fern canyon trail is closed at the moment, but when it’s open it’s the best trail at the park. Reserve a camping space early or you probably won’t get a last minute spot.
Lovely little park with very nice campsites. Small campground so best to have a reservation.
5 mile hike to a waterfall or shorter rim hike above the bay. Awesome place to watch the sunset.
Parking: either need a state parks pass or pay the fee. Plenty of spots, it was empty when I came.
Amazing, picturesque, scenic view of the Bridge, tiny islands, trees, the aqua marine water
Must see
An absolute great place to sit on the beach and watch the sunset!!!!! If you're in Fort Bragg or Mendocino, you have to make the short journey to Russian Gulch State Park! Available for camping, picnicing, hiking or beachcombing, there's no shortage of things to do here. There is a fee for day use, but it's only $12 (last time I checked). Definitely a great place to check out and take a break!
