Make Woolman at Sierra Friends Center your basecamp for your Nevada County adventure! There are so many things to do and places to explore, all within 30 minutes of our campus. Take a dip in the South Yuba River, visit Empire Mine State Historic Park, or stroll along historic downtown Nevada City.
Our simple, wood-heated A-frame cabins are on the edge of central campus, footsteps away from trails that snake through our 240 acres of woods and meadows. Similar to cabins you might find in Yosemite or California State Parks, our cabins are rustic and cozy.
Each A-frame can accommodate two people in twin beds on either side of the central wood stove (when fires are allowed, we provide wood, kindling, and newspaper to start your fire). Each A-frame has two small desks with chairs and shelves built into the slanted walls. There is electricity in each cabin (limited wifi access on campus). Also, there is a shared bath house with toilets and showers.
We have a SELF CHECK-IN table set up just inside the Office when you arrive on campus. Please review and read your welcome packet when you arrive. It has all the information you will need during your stay.
YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR OWN BEDDING - BLANKETS/ SLEEPING BAGS, PILLOWS, AS WELL AS TOWELS during your stay. ALSO, PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN COOKING STOVE, UTENSILS, FOOD and COOLERS/ICE, everything you need for your stay.
NO OUTDOOR FIRES ARE ALLOWED.
Nearly 2/3 of this land and many structures were lost/damaged due to the Jones Fire in 2020. Currently there are accessible trails (with some limitations) available for hiking.

We are located an hour from Sacramento and an hour and a half from Tahoe. Our site is within 15 minutes driving distance to the South Yuba River.
Woolman is a 501(c)3 non-profit with a mission to steward diverse learning communities and educational programs that weave together spirituality, peace, sustainability and social action.
As the Head of Conserve School I have had the opportunity to work with a number of Woolman Semester School alums. These young adults have impressed me with what they have taken away from their semester at Woolman and their ability to live what they have learned there in their lives. I recommend a Woolman Semester for any high school student who is passionate about peace and social justice.
I attended the most wonderful yoga retreat here with KC from AcuYogini. We did yin yoga, self acupressure, drumming, hiking and had a delicious catered lunch. I met so many wonderful people and felt so incredibly relaxed by the end of the retreat. I did not want to leave! They also have cabins and a Stonehouse there with lodging if you want to stay the night. They also have summer camps here for kids.
