About Campground

Lassen is a lovely little campground near the obsidian mines. It is currently under discussion for decommissioning. This is open area camping as there are no designated camp-sites. FRock fire rings are located throughout the area.

Directions

From Alturas go north on US Hwy 395 approximately 20 miles to Davis Creek. Turn east on County Road 11 and continue approximately 9 miles to County Road 30/Modoc Backcountry Discovery Trail and turn left/north. Continue north approximately 15 miles to the campground on the right.

Alternately, continue past Davis Creek to Co. Rd. 47, turn right (east) and follow the few signs to the campground.

Lovely! Not easy to find. GPS directions sent me to other people's driveways and weird places. No cell service.

A lot of cow pies and all night mooing. Still pretty nice, though.

Off Hwy 395 you take co. rd. 47 also known as S. Willow Ranch Rd. East, and there's a few forks in the road, but if you stick to main road and don't take no turns until you see the sign for Lassen Creek campground then you should find it. It is actually my ancestors actual village summer camp Pit River / Modoc Tribe so please pack out what you pack in, excellent chilly Creek for swimming, near camp and Natural Spring coming out of ground, enjoy.

Warner mountains are amazing. Definitely a beautiful location off the beaten path. For the people looking to take the road less traveled.

Ohh, beautiful Flora for the botany minded person and great rocks for the geology type person.

**CAUTION**

Watch out for the free range calves with circling diease. Literally running in circles and foaming at the mouth.

Or, maybe that was just the mushrooms.

Either way come check it out and have a good time.

Nice campground. New pit toilets. New picnic tables and fire pits at each site. About 10 sites. Wooded campsites. No fee! Occasional open range ows wander through, no big deal. Gravel forest roads on both sides of the campground. A few early morning logging trucks pass by. We spotted a black bear about 5 miles past the camp and a gray wolf about 2 miles past camp. Both animals were gone in a split second. They didn't want to be around people. Great area!
