Deep Creek canyon has outstanding scenic qualities related to the sheer-walled canyon, water resources, and riparian vegetation. The Deep Creek area has 5 sites that have picnic tables and fire rings. Camp at designated marked campsites only. Must pack out human waste or use the vault toilet a bit farther up the road. No cat holes are allowed due to the proximity of the creek to the sites. Follow White-Nose Syndrome decontamination protocol if exploring underground in the area.
Take the Dotsero exit off I-70 (exit 133). Head north on the Colorado River Road 1.6 miles to the Coffee Pot Road #600 National Forrest Access on the left. There is a BLM Deep Creek Campground sign at the turn. The recreation area is 1 mile up the road; respect posted private property. Call the field office for more details.

This place is so beautiful and if you don't know. You will when you get there. I won't reveal the secrets that this area has. Bc the surprise when you see it is worth the wait.
Beautiful and quiet camping spot. Please don’t leave juman waste as it contaminates the river. There are fire pits and picnic tables for each camp site
Great campground!! We arrived around 7 pm on a Friday and drove about 4 miles past the bathroom (10-15 minutes depending on how fast you can drive along the bumpy dirt road) and found this great, private campsite with rock fire pits already formed. The views were incredible! Highly recommend driving up the road if the first campsites by the river are taken. There were plenty of pull off areas with fire pits. Had intermittent service up at our spot too.
We were searching for a quiet and green free camping option on our way to Utah on a Saturday in July, around 4pm.
I found this free campground along a beautiful river on google maps and we checked it out. It was completely full. So we drove up a road for some miles and found another spot directly by the street but with a fire place and grandios view on the green mountains all around. So we decided to stay here for the night.
The nature is absolutely breathtaking but this road up the hill is used by tons of people who are driving high speed like on Pikes Peak Hill Climb and in many cases with loud music on so that you can here them already for miles. We came here at 4:30pm and people drove up and down until midnight. It wasn’t a peaceful place anymore and even in the middle of the night cars drove down like at 1am and 3am. It’s crazy when you’re camping directly next to the street.
Anyway, there was an outhouse (very dirty, but at least you could use it).. down the road a bit.
I still rate with 3 stars here because the nature and views are extremely beautiful and we haven’t camped down the river, but next to the streets.
