From Sundance, WY, take US Rt. 14 west (or exit 185 off Interstate 90 to US Rt. 14 west) for 1.4 miles to Cook Lake Recreation Area sign (Forest Rt. 838). Turn right onto Rt. 838 and go 12.9 miles to another Cook Lake Recreation Area sign (Forest Rt. 843). Turn right onto Rt. 843 and go 5.4 miles to still another Cook Lake Recreation Area sign (Forest Rt. 842).
Five dollar daily use fee so bring cash unless you have a pass. No cell service. Very pretty area and the lake is a motor fee lake.
Was there 30 yr go when my son and I bonded he was 12 then . Stayed 2 days fished and had a great time. One we will cherish.
This place is amazing! We found it by accident on our way to Devils Tower and it was a great highlight of our trip. It was a little expensive at $25 per night. There is 10 miles of dirt road leading to it, but you won’t drive through prettier countryside anywhere else and the road was well maintained.
I am not giving a full 5 stars because the campground host had THE LOUDEST generator that we could easily hear across the lake and up the hill at our campsite. He also was not very friendly and his dog barked constantly.
Great time at this lake, it's clean, quiet and we'll managed. We come here every year! Should come during spring and fall for sure to avoid the flies. Great ATV spot!
Nice campground. Clean toilets. Couple of trails including one you can hop on right from the campground. Road from the Aladdin side is best. Follow USFS directions, not Google maps, from Sundance
