These relatively undiscovered sand dunes offer an ideal recreation area for ATVs. These hills are a well-kept secret and mostly used by locals, but expect to find plenty of other off-roaders on the weekends. The Big Dunes cover five square miles and tower about 500’. Big Dune is home to sensitive plants and animals.
From Las Vegas, travel north on US-95 for approximately 95 miles. Turn left onto Valley View Road and travel approximately 2.2 miles. Turn left onto a dirt road and travel until you reach the dune.
So much fun! Be prepared with water and food. Walking to the highest dune is awesome, but will take about an hour's hike to reach the top and return
Had a run to the top from the highway earlier this summer, nice clean dune. Just got a photo with Mt. Whitney 100 miles in the distance on a clear winter morning.
Don't use north side state rd. Not maintain by state at all. Can't get close to dune unless you have 4x4. Use N Valley view Rd. DO NOT USE BIG DUNE RD.
Love that Big due is only two hours from Las Vegas. We had a blast shredding the dune.
