About Campground

Thomas Canyon Campground is located in the scenic Lamoille Canyon, in northeast Nevada, 30 miles from Elko. Visitors enjoy fishing Lamoille Creek and exploring many local hiking trails. Recreation Lamoille Creek is a popular stream among fly-fishermen. The creek contains brook and wild rainbow trout. Lamoille Canyon offers numerous hiking and horseback riding trails that lead to alpine lakes and vistas. Thomas Canyon Trail begins at the campground, leading past several waterfalls, through an alpine meadow into a glacial cirque. The canyon road is popular for scenic driving and road biking. Many rock climbing routes can be found on the canyon walls. Facilities The campground offers single and double campsites, each equipped with a picnic table, campfire ring and grill. Some sites also have tent pads. Vault toilets, drinking water and trash collection are provided. A campground host is on-site. Natural Features The campground sits at the mouth of Thomas Canyon, a part of larger Lamoille Canyon, at an elevation of 7,200 feet. Both canyons are within the beautiful Ruby Mountains, a desert island brimming with wildlife, sparkling lakes and streams, wildflower-filled meadows and jagged peaks. Groves of aspen and cottonwood trees provide partial shade in the campground and beautiful fall color. Lamoille Creek runs through the site. All campsites afford breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and canyon walls. ADA Access: N

This was one of my favorite campgrounds of the dozen and a half we stayed at in the last 2 months. This place has no hookups, but they had potable water and bathrooms (no showers). The creek was adorable and my boys had a great time swimming and playing in it.

The best part is how quiet and clean it was. For the most part, the people staying there maintained their areas and respected the surrounding natural area.

We walked up the trail that’s located at this campground and it was absolutely, breathtakingly gorgeous. I took pictures with my canon camera so I wasn’t able to upload the pictures from our hike, but trust me, it was worth the climb.

I would recommend this place to anyone with a medium to small sized camper or RV or anyone tent camping. The attendant/camp host was extremely nice and helpful. It’s also a great place to hike.

I want to hide this gem from everyone! Its incredible views and campground location are perfect for families. The river runs right through the back sides of some sites. Please do clean up after yourselves, dogs and kids to keep it enjoyable for everyone.

This place surpassed all my expectations. While visiting in early June, the creeks were all rushing with running water that gave me a soothing feeling and drowned out any sounds of nearby neighbors. There was still snow on the top of the mountains melting. The campsite and bathroom were clean and nice. The campsite host answered all my questions about the area, and recommended trails. I did not see a single piece of trash while visiting. I highly recommend site number 31 for it's proximity to the creek. I did not get any bug bites. The canyon was beautiful day and night.

Cold October visit but the views were worth a little cold. We stayed in site 31. Beautiful views and the creek right next to us.

All sizes of sites - from small tent size to pull through for large RVs and trailers. We went during the non-reservation period and were lucky to get three sites close together for our group. Small restrooms and no showers. The views from the campsites are spectacular.
