Really Cool State Park

Never fully understood the history of the Charcoal Ovens or Kilns like these ones, but it was really cool to see and learn the history of these ovens! Definitely a cool quick stop to stop at on your way into our out of Ely!

A very unusual site. The history behind the silver mines and these kilns is interesting. The sadest part was that 36 square miles of trees were cut down to make charcoal in these kilns. They have not come back.

Loved this! First, the town of Ely is adorable and the views heading to the ovens are amazing! $5/$10 day pass (on honor system) for NV residents and non NV. So much history in these ovens it's incredible they are in such great shape for their age! Hiking paths are right off the ovens. Watch for wildlife and stay on the paths. A fun and worthwhile stop!!
